In the topic that occupies us today, we are going to speak about the environments of development that there are available ones for Mac OS X. Everlasting, it has been said that the Apple computers were not good environments for the applications development. Partly, this was true it even does a pair of years, when the popularity of the apple was already a fact beyond the iPod and the iPhone.
Without going further, I still remember when being in second of career (if the memory does not trump me) I bought my first Mac, an iBook G4 with Panther. The first real problem which I had to face, the margin of the change of the operating system that did not turn out to be annoying to me by no means, it was how to do the practices that every day were sending us. To programme in Pascal and in C they supposed a problem and as soon as we begin studying in depth the development in JAVA, the thing became more complicated. Then, when I risked in the managerial world, the problem came to me with the development of applications J2EE in this environment and the problems of configuration of Eclipse so that it was taking of correct form the TOMCAT configuration.
We must know that Mac OS X is a system UNIX, not in vain, it takes all his skeleton of the systems BSD, direct progeny of the mythical system of the 70. Therefore, we have a C/C compiler available ++, any time, we install XCode, the environment of development that Apple puts at our disposal and that we will find in the DVD of installation of the system. XCode offers a finished environment for many languages, as they could be Pascal or Java, so, when we install FreePascal or the SDK of Java, we will be able to use this tool that Apple puts at our disposal.
Other of the most popular environments that we find in Mac OS X and that it has improved very much in the last years for our operating system is an Eclipse. When I began myself to dedicate professionally to the world of the Web programming and we were creating in the company applications J2EE, Eclipse supposed many problems. Frequently we were lacking an environment as WebSphere of IBM, with our own production servants and without problems of compatibility with other day pupils, as it was Tomcat. For fortune for us, with the step of the versions up to today, the Tomcat configuration already does not suppose a problem and does not last any more than five minutes (descarga+instalación of tomcat+configuración of eclipse). In the same way that happens with XCode, we will be able to programme with more languages thanks to the plugins who can settle, straight, from the proper environment across the servants of updates of the project Eclipse. This way, for example, for PHP we have Aptana, which offers us a powerful environment to develop applications of this type.
Although if of PHP it talks each other, I have special predilection for Coda, an application developed by the boys of Panic, not very expensive and that between other things, allows us to edit our files in line.
As the weeks happen, we will see how to form some and others up to turning our mac into the perfect platform for the development without anything than envying to the workstations Windows.
